We love road trips. What’s better than hitting the open road, listening to some good tunes, and taking in some beautiful scenery? When we first started dating, almost three years ago, Chris surprised me with a scenic drive to Mont Tremblant. During our visit, we took a breathtaking helicopter tour over the sprawling green mountains, the sparkling lakes, and the picturesque village at the base of Mont Tremblant. After this, we quickly made our way to the village for a romantic dinner and some of the best maple ice cream we’ve ever had (there’s a photo of Kristine enjoying it below). This is where our love affair with Tremblant started.
Fast forward to 2021 and the pandemic has caused the Canadian real estate market to explode. We decided to take the plunge and sell our long-term rental to give the world of short-term rentals a try, and what better place to do that than the Mont Tremblant area?
We had no idea exactly what we wanted, but we were leaning towards something more modern but still had that feeling of being in nature. We came across a development called Chic Shack, located 15 minutes, south-west of the village of Mont Tremblant and immediately set out to tour their available lots. It was pouring rain and we were soaked, but we carried on, lot after lot, trudging up hills and through the mud with Bob, our guide (whose patience we definitely tested). When we came to Lot 203 and looked out over the forest and watched a little stream running down below, we knew we had found our place.
Since then, it’s been a whirlwind. It’s been overwhelming, exciting, and at times even a little terrifying. We’ve been reviewing floorplans, listening to podcasts on hospitality, learning about thread count, laying on mattresses, researching which towels are the softest, sitting on couches and chairs to test their comfort, and spending late nights discussing the intricacies of paint colours.
In the end, we want to be able to share something we love, with as many people as possible. We want to offer you this amazing little cabin, that we are putting so much love and care into, in the hopes that you’ll love it as much as we do.
What have we been up to?
So much room for activities
La Khabine isn’t even built yet, but we couldn’t resist heading out and trying some of the things that the Mont Tremblant area has to offer. So far we’ve managed to take an ATV adventure, which is a beautiful 30-minute drive north of La Khabine. We’ve visited Mont Tremblant for more ice cream (of course) and to ride some thrilling zip lines from the top of the mountain all the way back to the village (including the longest zip line in Quebec!). Last, but absolutely not least, we did some tubing down the Riviere Rouge, which is only a 2 minute drive from our front door! Guests of La Khabine even have their own little parking lot right across the street from the river for easy access.
In search of the perfect sleep
We want you to visit and have one of the best sleeps of your life. You know the kind where you wake up and it’s 2 hours past the time you normally get up? That’s what we’re aiming for. For starters, we’ve actually been testing different brands of sheets, to see how they feel once they’ve been washed and what it’s like to spend the night under them.
We have some great mattresses for each bedroom and we’re proud to say that each bed has a super comfy feather bed on top of it so that you can get that sought-after sleeping on a cloud feeling that we’re all looking for. Combine all of that with pillows from Casper and Le Hotel St. Germain and we think you’re in for a whole lot of Z’s.
La Khabine — A spa-like getaway?
Like we said before, we want you to relax and just enjoy yourself while you’re here. We’re hoping to build a sauna right in the forest, so that you can have your own mini spa experience just steps away from the La Khabine. We would love to hear your opinion — would a sauna in the forest be something you would look forward to using? Drop us a line at lakhabine@gmail.com and let us know 🙂
So, to conclude
Do we have experience? Nope. But what we do have is a passion for nature and the genuine desire for people to stay at La Khabine and have the best sleep, the most relaxing view, and an incredible campfire. We care, and because we do, we’re going to work hard to ensure our guests want to come back again and again. Thank you so much for joining us and we hope you’ll continue to follow us on our journey!
